You say goodbye, I say hello
They say when one door closes, another one opens.
(And, if you’re lucky, the dog doesn’t get out.)
Meet my new door — and your new portal to all things dog.
The video above is the one I used to bid farewell to readers of my old newspaper blog, “Mutts.” My involvement with it ends today. I’m one of about 60 people leaving the Baltimore Sun amid the latest round of cutbacks. Long story short, I couldn’t bear to hang around and watch what’s happening to my old sweetheart, newspaper journalism.
So for now, I’m working on a book, and writing this blog and, with a lot of help from my friends, running my own website.
As with the old blog, this new website will be local (Baltimore), regional (Washington and Maryland) and national. We will go (virtually and sometimes in real life) where the dog news is, but at the same time we’ll pay special attention to our own backyard.
As you can see from the non-profit groups we’re linking to, Baltimore comes first (except when it comes to the American League-East). But even more first are dogs — big ones, little ones, purebred ones, mutty ones, country dogs, city dogs, fancy dogs and just plain dogs.
You can read more about our philosophy in the aptly-named “About” section.
For now, welcome aboard — especially those of you who might be following me from my old home to my new one.
You are following, aren’t you?
I’ve got treats. C’mon, now. Sit! Stay! Read!
Good dog.

Hooray. Spencer wants to know if you have any meat-flavored champagne to toast the new site.

I am SO HAPPY to see you making this seemingly seamless transition! The new site is very attractive and impressive and definitely exudes your personality. I am looking forward to an even better blog than your former employer would allow. I am thrilled that you will continue to blog and to author a book. Your first signing needs to be at a dog park so that your ENTIRE audience can attend! Good fortune and happiness with all of this, my friend! We are HERE for you and Ace!

I’ve got Ohmidog bookmarked now and am glad to see the beautiful site. I love the pictures of Ace at the top of the pages.
I think my internet provider might cause websites to be displayed in a goofy fashion sometimes. It may be the case with Ohmidog. On my computer, there’s a lot of blank space under Ace’s picture and between the left and right columns. I didn’t find your blog entries until I noticed the calendar had a couple dates highlighted. Maybe a more savvy internet user would have gone to a calendar automatically, or maybe you’re just trying to separate the border collie mixes from the Shih Tzus. Anyway, I’m glad the site is up and running and I look forward to many more visits. Good luck with it!

Congrats John. As the old saying goes, “Build it, and they will come.”
