Rachael Ray’s new dog food
Rachael Ray has launched her new line of “super premium” dog food and treats, called “Rachael Ray Nutrish.”
I’m sure it is delish.
The daytime TV host, 30-minute meal-maker, best-selling author, perky shortener of words and pet lover — pictured here with her pit bull mix Isaboo — said the following in a press release: “I love my dog Isaboo and as a member of my family I need to make sure that she eats as well as the rest of us. With the launch of Nutrish, I now have the opportunity to share with other pet lovers some of her favorite meals, flavors and special treats.”
Manufactured by Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, the dog food includes two varieties, both all natural and featuring “real meat” as the first ingredient — Chicken and Veggies (as Rachael would call them) and Beef and Brown Rice.
There’s also a line of treats named after Isaboo. Isaboo Booscotti crunchy treats come in two flavors — bacon and peanut butter; and Isaboo Grill Bites chewy treats come in beefy burger and bacony burger flavors. For more information on the food and treats, go to nutrishforpets.com.
Ray will donate her share of the proceeds to Rachael’s Rescue, which is dedicated to helping at-risk animals through adoption, medical care and educational programs, along with training and outreach initiatives.
With Ellen DeGeneres and Rachael Ray both having their own dog food lines, it might be fun to come up with some other daytime TV host dog food and treat lines.
Here, I’ll get us started:
Jerry Springer’s Spicy Rawhide Chews: Just unwrap and watch you dog tear into these treats, guaranteed to spice up his day. Ingredients: Scraps and more scraps; no nutritional value whatsoever. (Caution: Never place one between two dogs as fighting may result. Continued consumption may result in feelings of shame about one’s species.)
Okay, your turn.

City of (1,800) Angels
There are 59,684 registered Chihuahuas in Los Angeles, and about one of every 50 of them is named Princess.
That’s just one of the fascinating pieces of canine trivia available in a new database on LA’s top dogs compiled by the Los Angeles Times and launched this week on its website.
The database provides facts and figures on more than half a million registered dogs in Los Angeles County. That’s only half of Los Angeles’ canine population — the other half is unregistered — but among those who do document their dogs, Chihuahuas and Labradors are the top two breeds, German Shepherds are third and pit bulls fourth.
The most popular names: Lucky, Max, Princess, Rocky and Buddy.
Across Los Angeles County there are 6,502 dogs whose owners deemed them “lucky” to be theirs, according to an article about the database in yesterday’s Times.
Surprisingly, the Beverly Hills stereotype of a chihuahua in every handbag — soon to be reinforced by a major motion picture – turns out to be a bit out of whack with actual numbers. German Shepherds are top dog in Beverly Hills. Chihuahua’s, meanwhile, are the most popular dog in Compton.
There are dogs named Beyonce, George Bush and Madonna. There is, as you might expect, a pit bull named Bradpitt, as well as 192 Shaqs and 1,020 dogs named Kobe.
The list ranks the American pit bull terrier as the fourth most popular dog in the county. Any dog whose license said “pit bull” was put in that category. But the term “pit bull” encompasses several breeds and mixes of them: the American pit bull terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier (24th on the list with 4,788) and the Staffordshire bull terrier (33rd with 2,857.)
The distinction of having the most Chihuahuas in the county goes to Baldwin Park, with 1,438 of them.
