Dogs to hit cars in Chicago

The city of Chicago will be honoring its dogs and touting its dog-friendliness in 2009, when mandatory city vehicle stickers will sport this image — chosen from submissions by high school students.
Every year City Clerk Miguel del Valle hosts a vehicle sticker art contest for all Chicago high school students, inviting them to submit artwork highlighting a selected theme.
For the stickers coming out in June 2009, the theme was “Dog Friendly Chicago” – and students were asked to submit artwork highlighting the city’s efforts to make Chicago dog friendly.
Denise Ferguson’s drawing was picked by online voters who chose from ten finalists who had been selected by a panel of artists, civic leaders and local media celebrities.
A senior at Corliss High School, she will receive a $1,000 savings bond from the city, and the honor of having her artwork appear on 1.3 million Chicago automobiles.
