Maryland SPCA March for the Animals, April 19

The Maryland SPCA March for the Animals is scheduled for April 19, 2009, rain or shine, at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore. Last year, thousands of people and pets turned out to support the MSPCA.

There are lots of ways to participate. You can form or join a pack for the event and walk with your friends, family, or work associates. You can walk as an individual. And of course, you can pledge to support the pack of your choice. Dogs are also welcome to walk with their humans for the 1.5 mile course.

John and Ace walked last year and had a terrific time despite the damp-ish weather. I hope that Spencer, Greg, and I will also get to join a pack and walk–or in our case, mosey–this year.

Packs are already forming, and I’ve heard about two so far: Kat Rafferty is forming a pack with her golden Lab, Sputnik. Erika Nusholtz and Greg Madison will be packing it up with their family of bickering cats. (Not sure if the cats are attending.)

In addition to the opportunity to march, walk, stroll, or mosey, there will be a canine agility course, training tips, a flealess-market of vendors, dog contests, and lots of prizes.

The Maryland SPCA places more than 3,000 homeless each year. March for the Animals is their biggest annual fundraiser, and all the proceeds go to provide care, shelter, food, spay/neuter and medication to the animals in their adoption center. They receive no government money or funds from national organizations.

Visit the March for the Animals website to sign up for a pack, to contribute, or to learn more.
