Woman sues over death of her “banned” dog
A suburban Cincinnati woman whose dog was seized by a local SPCA and listed as belonging to a locally banned breed has sued the SPCA over the dog’s subsequent death.
Officials took Paulette Evans’ bulldog to the local SPCA last summer when it escaped and a neighbor called authorities. She was charged with keeping a vicious dog and related crimes. Both Evans, 54, and her veterinarian, say the SPCA misidentified the dog’s breed.
The SPCA said the dog died of a virus, but Evans says she doubts that because her dog had been vaccinated against the virus. The SPCA denies any wrongdoing.
Her lawsuit filed in Hamilton County seeks $25,000 in damages, according to the Associated Press, which reported that a city task force is reevaluating the pit bull ban because of difficulty in identifying the breed.
The charges against Evans were dropped after her dog died.
