“Presidential Pets” featured in art exhibit

“Presidential Pets,” an exhibit by Baltimore artist Spoon Popkin begins Tuesday at the Yellow Dog Tavern, 700 S. Potomac St.

The exhibit runs through May 25. A reception will be held May 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Our true personalities are often reflected through our pets. The same goes for our president’s pets,” Popkin says. “Bush Jr’s favorite cow Ofelia has a carefree roguish quality that easily reflects Bush’s attitude toward foreign policy.”

Included in the exhibit are a series of sketches of animals drawn around the world during Spoon’s travels through Turkey, Austria and behind the scenes at The Baltimore Zoo.

Popkin received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Glasgow School of Art and the Chautauqua Institute for Performing Arts.
