"We don’t hold the moral high ground in that this country was developed through the destruction and clear-cutting of much of its ancient forests." Yeah that's really the only standard one can use in judging a country. The forests. Brilliant.

I can guess at his moo goo reference, but underlying is concern of our continuing to spend money we-do-not-have. The Chinese have a $1 trillion surplus in foreign exchange reserves while we are drowning in debt.

Asian economies are emerging at a rapid pace and soon will dominate. Many of those economies are growing through use of their natural resources including mining for base and precious metals and logging with destruction of ancient forest, and clear cutting of forests for crops to feed expanding populations. Human encroachment in turn is creating a crisis for wild animal populations including the big cats, elephants, orangutans, etc, ad infinitum.

China has heavily invested in Africa to take advantage of that continents natural resources. Others such as Zimbabwe use the lure of trophy hunting to build their tourism industry.

Are we merely subsidizing the destruction?
