Cat owner accused of trying to poison dogs
A California man was charged last week with cruelty to animals after trying to poison dogs in his apartment complex by leaving poisoned meatballs around the dog run, officials said.
San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the apartment complex to find several tenants were fighting and one was reportedly throwing meatballs laced with rat poison, according to the North County Times.
Gerald Parry, 46, of Ramona, was upset because the apartment manager told him he had too many cats in his apartment, but didn’t enforce rules against having large dogs on the property, a sheriff’s office spokesman said.
Witnesses told investigators that Parry had threatened to kill neighbors’ dogs, and that they saw Parry leave large objects in the complex’s dog run, he said. Deputies checked the area and found several large meatballs which appeared to have been mixed with a solid poisonous substance, he said.
Parry was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals, depositing hazardous substances on someone else’s property and exposing animals to poison. Portions of the meatballs were sent to the Sheriff’s crime lab for analysis, officials said.
Officials had no information Friday on whether any dogs ingested any of the meat.

TURNS OUT THE DA NEVER CHARGED MR. PARRY WITH ANY VILOATIONS. MR. PARRY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR VACCINATING, FEEDING AND SPAYING/NEUTERING SEVERAL ABANDON STARVING CATS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD AFTER HE WAS GIVEN PERMISSION BY THE APARTMENT MANAGER (STEPHANIE THOMAS), IRIONACALLY THE APARTMENT MANAGER’S DOG WAS TORN APART A MONTH LATER BY THE DOG, WHO’S OWNER CAUSED MR. PARRY’S EVICTION A MONTH AGO. THIS HAPPENED AFTER MR. PARRY POINTED OUT SHE WAS JEOPARDIZING THE SAFTEY OF SMALLER DOGS AND CATS BY ALLOWING LARGE DOGS IN THE COMPLEX WHILE ADVERTIZING THE COMPLEX IS PET FRIENDLY ON RENT.COM AND THAT THERE IS A 25 LBS PET WEIGHT LIMIT. I THINK STEPHANIE THOMAS SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH ANIMAL ABUSE DUE TO THIS FACT. UNFORTUNATELY HER INNOCENT DOG PAID THE PRICE FOR HER NELGECT.
