It is sad that the "pitbull" has been so misunderstood. Unfortunately, dog fighting, irresponsible owners, and overpopulation has really caused this problem. It is important for people to know their facts before spewing misinformation. Pitbull jaws are the same as all other dogs and do NOT lock! The Pitbull just doesn't like to give up/let go which is what (unfortunately) makes them good fighting dogs. Pitbulls also do not have the strongest bite with the Rottweiler and German Sheperd ahead of the pitbull. See http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=ADDxe24ud90&feature=related for excerpt from National Geographics channel Bite Force with Dr. Brady Barr. The pitbull . . . which is actually not a recognized breed is a cross between the bull dog and terrier. Pitbulls are actually loving and playful dogs. There are people who have bred and trained some of them to be more aggressive. And an abused/neglected aggressive pitbull can be dangerous. But we should really be looking at the owners and when something bad happens . . . blame the owner and take a good look at the breeder. If I am bit or attacked by a pitbull tomorrow . . . I would be going after the owner!

My sister's Lab was attacked by the neighbor's pitbull. The attack was witnessed and was completely unprovoked. I understand there are pit lovers out there, and yes, you are correct that other dogs bite too. What you fail to understand you stupid person, is that when a Lab or a Poodle or a Daschund bite, they let go, a Pit Bull does not have that ability. Are you so stupid you don't know that? Ah, yet another ignorant dangerous animal owner. I guess we can't expect these 'Magnificent' creatures to be smarter than their owners! Most domesticated dogs, other than Pits, generally let go of the victim if they too are being pummeled......have you ever seen a Pit just let go?

WE MUST STOP THIS MADNESS> how? If anyone has any idea, please post. We cannot allow this massacre to continue.

The plaintiffs apparently wanted the judge to impose quotas (i.e. if 80% of the cavalier king charles spaniels who come into the shelter are put up for adoption, 80% of the pit bulls must be put up for adoption, also). The judge (rightly) declined to do that. This ruling almost certainly saves dog lives by allowing shelters to adopt out dogs who are adoptable rather than to devote huge amounts of resources to dogs that are not adoptable.

Why is this shelter allowed to break the law? They should not be allowed state funding under these circumstances.
