Police dog left in car dies in California
Charges could be filed against a northern California police K-9 officer whose dog died after he left it unattended while on duty.
The unnamed Alameda officer left the six-year-old Belgian Malinois unattended for more than three hours in his personal car while attending a police training exercise, police said.
When the officer returned to the vehicle he found the dog in “distress,” Alameda police Lt. Bill Scott said. “It was a tragic accident. There was no intention on the officer’s part for this to happen, whatsoever.”
The dog was brought to the Bay Area Veterinary Emergency Clinic, where it died, the Alameda Times-Star reported.
Investigators presented a possible criminal case on the animal’s death to Alameda County Assistant District Attorney, who is expected to announce Monday whether she plans to file charges against the officer.

A cop, no less, who obviously never responded to pets left in hot cars during his entire career? Totally unacceptable, prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law, just as you would your average public joe.
