“Dog-kangaroos” draw looks in the Philippines

Cute and Bambi, though they’ve been dubbed “dog-kangaroos” by those who see them in Quezon City, are actually dogs, both born with only their rear legs.
The dogs belong to Lope Tulipas, a Quezon City street vendor, who has turned down offers from people wanting to buy them, the Los Angeles Times blog, Unleashed, reports.

What caused the birth defect?
I’ve got to wonder what unnatural stress is being put on their various muscles and joints, increasing as they age. Just the ordinary tasks of walking, eating, drinking, relieving is more complex.
I can imagine idiots who would want to exploit this and try to breed 2 legged dogs.
They look well cared for. Hope their futures are secured.
