What the news media couldn't show - because they weren't allowed on the property was the on-site vet exams-some of which showed open wounds, consistent with fighting - THAT's how they can get some dog fighting charges. Sure, most were probably bred to be sold to fighters, which in Georgia is also a felony violation. So is the conditions these dogs were kept in - felony animal cruelty and neglect can be just as bad - and prosecutable as fighting. If you do a Google search on "Rollin Loyd" you can see a cached article about this man: in 2008, more than $55,000 in cash, 35 firearms & 2 lbs marijuana was seized from his home. He was also arrested and charged in a 2004 drug find worth over $50,000. And I’m sure it’s no coincidence that the owner of these dogs has had two previous arrests for drugs and gun violations.
