Dogs with a very slim waist in proportion to their chests (a Greyhound sort of shape) are a bit more prone to it than other dogs. It can kill a dog pretty quickly. If a dog's abdomen gets swollen or tender, if it tries to vomit and can't, tries to defecate and can't, or appears very uncomfortable in that area, it's a good idea to get to the vet's right away. Sometimes they can fix it, but sometimes they can't. Either way, it's horribly painful for the dog.
