I've seen this behavior right here in the Queen City of the Patapsco Watershed. Several years ago, while I was out for a walk in Canton, all the dogs within earshot suddenly began barking and howling. They kept it up for several minutes. When I got home and turned on the evening news, I learned we'd had a slight tremor at that time. I honestly didn't feel it, but it was enough to make the dogs very uncomfortable. I think they're sensitive to vibrations that are too slight for us to sense, which means that they would feel the quake or tremor before it registered with us and long before we could see any physical movement. My concern would be that animals, when threatened, tend to seek shelter--and we know that outside is the place to be if a quake hits. I assume she made it out OK.
