Former Mayor Fred Esco is also the one responsible for his cousin Alonzo Esco having the animal control position. Alonzo Esco was employed w/ the City of Canton fire dept before animal control. He stole from the fire dept and was not terminated, but demoted to animal control where he held that position for 3 yrs as a sole employee. His job was to transport dogs/cats to the MS Animal Rescue League to be reunited w/ their owners or to be adopted, but Alonzo chose to shoot the dogs like target practice instead. Since Canton, MS is also one of the largest dog fighting cities in MS, it's also believed that Esco sold the shelter dogs as pit bull bait. The dead dogs were cleaned up, bagged and taken away after it was discovered that Esco was killing the dogs. Esco was terminated, but no charges have been filed against him. It's a huge cover-up here in MS.
