Yikes, Ike! Dog survives expressway ordeal
After holding up traffic on Chicago’s Eisenhower Expressway for two mornings in a row, a dog is now being treated at an animal hospital where staff members have named him ‘Eisenhower.’
Even after getting struck by a car, the pit bull continued to elude police officers, firefighters and others who were trying to rein him in.
Finally, on Thursday morning, the dog laid down and closed his eyes, at which time authorities were able to capture him, Fox News in Chicago reported.
Staff at Hill-Chester Animal Hospital say Ike’s paw pads are worn down from so much highway travel, but otherwise he’s in good shape.
The dog was first spotted Wednesday, running in and out of traffic until he exited the highway and disappeared. Thursday, he was on the road again, dodging cars until one hit him. Still, he kept going, until settling down for a rest.
The animal hospital says anyone claiming to be the dog’s owner will have to provide proof. After five days, the dog will be given to a pit bull shelter.
