8-week-old pit bull beaten to death by kids

A pit bull puppy died after being beaten by a group of youngsters Saturday near Baltimore’s Carroll Park Golf Course.

Officials say golfers saw three kids beating the puppy and chased them away.

The golfers tried rushing the animal to a vet, but it was too late. The puppy died on the way.

The golfers returned to the golf course where Animal Control was called to pick up the puppy, WJZ reported.

Officials say the dog, which was about eight weeks old, was beaten with a stick.

A necropsy was to be performed today. Anyone with any information is asked to call Animal Control at 410-0396-4688.

The incident is the latest in a series of cruel attacks on animals in Baltimore, and they come at a time when the city is cutting back funding to the Bureau of Animal Control and animal welfare organizations such as BARCS.

Last week, a family’s pit bull-shepherd mix was attacked by a neighbor wielding a machete, resulting in numerous injuries and the loss of an eye. On Easter Sunday, a pit bull was pelted with stones by a group of youths, and last summer a dog named Phoenix was set on fire, later dying from her injuries.

I deplore this type of actions. But it seems that even children are starting to do preeminent strikes against the breed. By supporting BSL it will help prevent excess pit bulls from being dumped and available to the increasing number of vigilante actions needed to make our neighborhoods safe from them.

Bullshit on the BSL comment. By supporting the falsehoods that are contained in BSL actions, you are supporting the ignorance that leads to the beating and machete-ing and owner-shooting of pit bulls.

Also, is there any possible good reason OUR SUPPOSED NEWSPAPER The Baltimore Sun hasn’t covered this yet?

Seriously? Why is BSL the solution to children abusing animals? It has not been JUST Pitties that have been abused around here. And how was vigilante actions NEEDED to keep a neighborhood safe from an 8 week old puppy? WTH? Are you saying its ok to beat the heck out of a defenseless animal “just because”? Then to me your no better then the kids who did this.

I think when kids are caught doing things like this, the parents should be brought up on some sort of charges. How old were they? Where were the parents? Parents just take no responsibility for raising kids these days.

And yes I know there are those cases where parents did everything to raise a kid right – but it certainly isn’t the majority.

By supporting BSL millions of Innoscent dogs die . How dare you – you blame the breed for the Children beating them – there is something Mentally wrong w/ you. Kids who start off Beating and Torturing animals grow up to be serial killers – same as Bundy and the rest of them – they all started out killing/torturing animals . But you know nothing about Human Pyscology let alone Canine Psychology. These kids parents obviously aren’t around or beat them themselves , but ALL u care about is the death of these breeds . If BSL works so great – you tell me why Bans are Uplifted all the time . Denver is being sued due to the Ban.

I can see ” Save the World ” handing these kids a bat to help them – Sitting on the sideline cheering these kids on .You can kill all breeds of ” Pit Bulls ” but then the Low Lifes are just going to Create another breed , you Moron . You solved nothing. Your way still ends in Death / MURDER .

baltimoregal pit owners whine when the papers cover pits and whine when they don’t. No pleasing!
Bug And yes I know there are those cases where owners did everything to raise a pit right – but it certainly isn’t the majority. It isn’t just children committing these horrific attacks, there is a uptick in the number of them across the country. They need to be stopped.
MzTx with a ban in place there would not be the over population of pits. There are so many being bred that the shelters have no choice but to put them down. If BSL didn’t work so well, why is there a steady increase of cities implementing bans or pit regulations? You have selected reading capabilities, I said “I deplore this type of actions”.

Save the World, I also call bullshit.

The last really notorious action of this nature didn’t involve a dog at all but a helpless kitten. We’re also treated on a regular basis to stories of elderly people being abused in their beds, toddlers starved to death for failing to say “amen” at grace, newborn humans smothered and buried in local parks by their own mothers, and local sports announcers beaten up for an iPod. We’ve even had our very own attempted suicide of a child after bullying.

Violence is everywhere. Its victims are of every species, every breed, every race and color, every age. It is an infection in our society. Its victims are often, but not always, those who have no voice to speak for themselves. As a society and a community, we need to speak for the voiceless, punish the guilty, and address the root causes. Executing a few extra dogs isn’t going to help one iota.

By not limiting reproduction of the breed you are condemning countless dogs to death, more killed daily then any ban imposed would. Almost all bans grandfather existing dog in.
The above articles are just a few of the growing number of animal abuses that are happening around the county.

NEW ORLEANS Apr 11, 2010

A pit bull may have been the victim of vigilante justice. The dog was hit in an apparent drive-by shooting and the LASPCA fears the shooting may be a backlash to recent pit bull attacks on children.

The shooting happened just after noon on Friday. Residents who live near the intersection of Charbonnet and Urquhart Streets in the ninth ward say they heard a single gun shot, and then the cries of a wounded animal.

Katherine LeBlanc with the LASPCA says, “Her injuries are incredibly severe, we are not sure how the dog is going to do, right now her status is minute to minute.”

The LASPCA isn’t sure if the dog who was shot was owned by someone or just a stray, but residents on the street say for the past few days they’ve seen a pit bull wandering around without an owner. Now they’re not sure if that’s the dog that was shot but it did cause them to keep a closer eye on their pets and children. Resident Lelia Walker says, “I know personally I would never do anything like that but I would in my opinion, try to contact somebody that can take care of them, like the SPCA or something.”

And that’s exactly what LeBlanc says should’ve been done. She’s hoping this was a random attack and not a case of people taking the law into their own hands. “We are trying to think positively that this is not something that we’re going to see more of, because of the recent attacks but that is something that could definitely happen.”

The pit bull is now at the Southeast Veterinary Hospital where she may undergo surgery for her injuries.

So far, there are no suspects in the case.

Save the World has a good point. The most effective way to eliminate crime is to preemptively kill the victims.

Hey Save the World, don’t you know once you make a comment that the nutters don’t like they will try make any comment from you look bad. It’s to late for you now, even if you said that you you were anti BSL they would still show their venomous fangs and attack the comment with their renown unrealistic hostilities. Not to worry though, the rest of us understood the point that you are making.

Save the world you apparently didnt read my post thoroughly…I never said “there are those cases where owners did everything to raise a pit right ”

My comment was in reference to children and the parents being held responsible for their actions. I quote “And yes I know there are those cases where parents did everything to raise a kid right – but it certainly isn’t the majority.”

What really irks me is that most people complaining about “pits” and thinking they should all just be put to death, cant even freakin identify them…one would say I own one – and I clearly do NOT. Not that I wouldn’t…

BSL will nto work. How many Boxers, American Bull Dogs, lab mixes have been sentenced to death because they “looked” like a “pit” to some fool who had no clue? And lets not forget years ago it was the evil GSD’s, or Rotties or Dobermans that all needed to die due to their “agression”. Where is the owners responsibility for the animal? And again where the hell are the parents to these sweet and innocent children (Serious sarcasm).
