Police shoot at pit bull, hit teen

A shot fired by a Baltimore police officer went through a pit bull and into one of a group of boys who had been harassing the dog earlier, police say.

The group of teens had been antagonizing a pit bull in Northeast Baltimore. Police say the pit bull got loose and was acting aggressively toward the children when officers arrived.

One officer fired a shot at the dog in defense of the 14-year-old boy, but the bullet passed through the dog and struck the boy, WBFF reported.

The child was being treated for a leg injury at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The 2-year-old pit bull was killed.

This is disgusting to me!! Police officers have other means to take down dogs then by shooting them, this is irresponsible action taken by the Baltimore police, those children should be held accountable as well, you don’t tease or harass any aggressive breed! This is just another report that makes this breed look bad!!! I am a pit owner and I feel for this breed!!!

This is a real shame. I guess it just says that not all cops have courage. How are we supposed to feel safe and protected when we have trigger happy, panicky police?

This police officer needs to be placed on desk duty and disarmed. What happened to being aware of your background before firing? Putting the lives of the public in immediate risk through gunfire far outweighs the potential risk posed by the dog.

Bad call and poor actions on the part of the BPD.

The teens were antagonizing the dog to the point that he broke free & came after them? The dog paid the ultimate price for his actions…but what of the teens who started the whole mess? The police officers need training on better ways to deal with dogs. And the teens need some community service at an animal shelter or rescue where they can hopefully learn some compassion! If not…the police will be chasing them down in a few years for acts against humans. *sigh*… RIP pup…

Yep, the kid should have got more than shot! The dog should have took a bite outta his ass!

Why didn’t he just shoot the bastard brats that were bothering the poor dog? I hate humans. The only thing that I feel sorry about when a dog mauls a child is because the poor dog is going to suffer because some ignorant brat antagonized him or her.
