Pro-Pet dog vitamins recalled

United Pet Group of Cincinnati is recalling all unexpired lots of its Pro-Pet Adult Daily vitamin supplement tablets for dogs because of possible salmonella contamination.

The Ohio company says it took the action “out of an abundance of caution” after one lot of the product tested positive for salmonella, according to Consumeraffairs.com.

The recalled vitamins — sold in retail stores nationwide — come in 100-count white plastic bottles with a light blue label and have a UPC of 26851-01800. All bottles with expiration dates on or before “06/13” are included in the recall.

Consumers with pets that consumed the recalled vitamins and have symptoms should contact their veterinarians.

United Pet Group said consumers should immediately stop giving their dogs the recalled vitamins. For more information about the recall, pet owners can contact the company at 1-800-645-5154, extension 3.

Have you tried to email them? I have not tried calling yet..I just started my dog on vitamins she has taken 18 pills. I am praying she is ok. Thanks for the headsup with the phone problem. My guess they won’t be answering anyone. If they answer please post.

I got through on the phone, and did ask why there was no website address on the notice, and why the product was not on the UPG website. I got a message from the media relations dept. that there is a separate website for the health items they manufacture. It’s http://www.propetcybervet.com where you will find they followed the good example of the Natural Balance recall the other day where recall is announced on front page in the upper right margin.

I just returned from Walmart in Ormond Beach ,Fl., and they would not sell me the anti-stress calming tabs as they said a major recall was out on them.. The web sit provided on the bottle does not cover this but does mention the vitamin recall rather haphazardly as you don,t want to be bothered until the lawsuit hits you. I stopped giving all your proiducts as my Vet said they ar dangerous and of no value. All I,m out is about $50.00 and a sik puppy. Thanks a lot for putting out theis information.

What am I to do about the mints that I have and paid for ? when were these recalled. what are the symptoms for a bad bottle. My girls have been eating these as a treat at night for 8yrs. Please respond . You changed the tablets and forced us to pay more for fewer pill, I hope you are proud of your accomplishment. P.G.

Its 3AM Tue. 7-6-10. Went to buy Glucosamine Advanced Joint care (dogs been taking over a year) Walmart in Greencastle Indiana said there was a recall. Call Pro-pet and they confirmed an issue, and it was a voluntary recall. Took The bottle in question (recalled) back to Walmart on Sat. 7-3-10 and got refund. They still had product on shelf. Talked to Larry in pet department and he had just taken over department. Talked to store manager Clif who told me product had been removed……..not true. Purchased the LIQUID GLUCOSAMINE and gave to dogs as of 7-4-10. One of my dogs ate my house plant to vomit since her gut was upset……..never ate before. The she went out and ate lots of grass and is coughing. Called Pro-Pet they are closed and if you have issues to call your own vet. Called my Vet and they said now that she has vomited she should be ok. I am not sure about that, but for now just watching the dog till I can get her in to see doctor in the morning when they have office hours. Now I read that “stress” tabs also recalled. Tried to phone number 513-337-0600 and asked to leave messege. WHAT DO I DO NOW!!!

read about the recall a little late. i have a new mother dog that had a litter of 9 pups. the same day she had them one died. we have been giving her the pro vitamins the whole time she was preg. and post preg. they are 2 1/2 weeks old they all seemed to be doing grate and then a few of them started acting a sick. well needless to say we are down to 6 pups and that number doesnt liked thats gona keep. we have waited a reqally long time for our babies and took great pride in keeping mother and babies in the best of health that we could. i no mother nature has its part in life but they were doing so good. i hope these vitamines did not play a part in the role of this. but we are going to take the deseased pups to the vet today to see if they can give us any insite as to what went wrong. if aznyone nos anything about htis please e-mail me atnickig@fairpoint.et

I was checking out this website for the 1st time today, to read up about treatment for dogs with skin disorders. I saw the postings about the vitamin recall. I’ve never used them, but I did see them the other day on a Wal-mart shelf. I have gone thru one bottle of the hydrocoristeroid shampoo & one bottle of the Medicated Hydrocoristeroid leave-in spray. They have done absolutely nothing to help my Minature Schnauzer, Roxy. Now after hearing about the recall (a couple years late), I REALLY have no faith in this brand. I can’t believe they still manufacture the recalled vitamin product. It really is scary to think that while trying to help your pet by giving them vitamins, could actually be unhealthy & possibly put them in their grave. Any ideas on what to do about a bad Schnauzer skin condition? – I know one brand not to suggest to others!!!!
