Highway Haiku: “A Grave Choice”

 “A Grave Choice”

Turn left, or turn right?

Either way, grave destiny

I think I’ll go straight

(Highway Haiku is a regular feature of “Dog’s Country,” the continuing tale of one man and one dog spending six months criss-crossing America. “Dog’s Country” can be found exclusively on ohmidog!)

My curiosity would have gotten the best of me at this juncture. I would have checked out both options to see if they were dead end roads. Haiku aside, did you?

To me, the message was so ominous that I avoided both options — fearing a dead end — and, as the haiku reported, went straight.

This reminds me of “The Wizard of Oz” when the scarecrow crosses his arms and says, “Some people go both ways.” Not that there’s anything wrong with that….
