Vick turns down chance to see former dog

Richard Hunter, the adoptive parent of one of Michael Vick’s dogs, confronted the Eagles quarterback in Dallas after a ceremony Saturday in which Vick received the key to the city — and asked him if he wanted an opportunity to see one of his former dogs.

Instead of getting an answer, Hunter, a local radio personality who we met this summer in our Travels with Ace, got pushed out of the way by Vick’s entourage. He put together this video of the event afterwards.

Hunter and his wife, Sunny, VIP manager for a Dallas gentlemen’s club, adopted Mel about two years after he was seized from the Vick estate in Virginia. He was one of 47 survivors, and one of the 22 who, deemed most hopeless, were sent to Best Friends, the animal sanctuary in southern Utah. He spent nearly two years there before trainers pronounced him adoptable.

Ace and I got to meet the whole family during out visit to Dallas, which included a car ride in which Ace shared the back seat with Mel and the Hunter’s other dog, Pumpkin.

Michael Vick showed little interest in learning more about Mel, despite Hunter’s persistent offers, and at one point a member of Vick’s security team told him, “We don’t care about the dogs.”

In presenting the key to the city, Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway told Vick, “You deserve it, you earned it.”

Hunter’s response to Vick getting presented the key? Maybe, he said, it’s time to change the locks.

Keep crying a river… If I was him I would have walked away as well. He served his time and he doesn’t owe any media attention creep anything!

While you guy’s are still stalking his every move 4 years after the fact, he is moving on with his life and helping the Humane Society to end dog fighting.

I would suggest people to try and stop the dog fighting that is under way now and stop worrying about Vick’s past sins. He is doing more than most of you self righteous, moral compass totting snobs will ever do!

Vick is doing a great job at his second chance and it burns you people up! LOL…. I guess that’s why he will be one of the highest paid players “once” again next year with a 24 million dollar check! What happened to all the protesters?

God bless America…..

Leave this man alone!! He has repented and paid his debt to society. Are we so righteous that we can judge and condem a man better than GOD? Matthew 6:12 “and forgive us for our debts, as we also forgive our debtors” 14 “for if you forgive others of their trespasses, your heavenly father will forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

A man with real regret in his heart would have faced the dog that he hurt like a man. All his “work” is just to save his image so he can keep playing football. I think it is a sad comment on our society that we value a football player over the lives of innocent animals. It’s just a game folks! These animals are real. He paid his debt to society, please! If it had been innocent children instead of innocent dogs, you would not feel the same way. Defenseless is defenseless.

Are you for real? The key to the city? I wonder how many other convicted felons on parole have the key to a major city…or even the key to a “one horse town” ??? What a jock sniffer! I hope Mayor Caraway is looking for his own key to the city after the next election! As for Richard & Sunny Hunter, “Thank You!” for giving Mel a loving & happy home. I think all the Vick fans handing out nasty comments & keys to cities should read Jim Gorants book “The Lost Dogs” for an eye opener on their Zero Hero! I will never forget what he did to the “little brown dog” or the countless other dogs who died so horribly by Vicks merciless “magic” hands. I too say “Change the Locks (and the mayor)…Fast!”

I didnt think so

For all the ignorant comments about “get over it”, ” he has done his time”, etc. … I can only feel sorry for you.

I am disappointed/disgusted upon belief that a city would award one of it highest symbolic distinction to an individual that terrorized and victimized poor defenseless animals . This a disgusting political move. Vick will have to eventually answer to someone…greater then us. We will see the real cry baby. I hope Vick likes heat.

Michael Vick is a sociopath, animal torturer/killer! Anyone who admired this P.O.S. has a skewed sense of values!! Every dollar he makes should be going to the caring people rehabilitating the dogs (the ones that survived)!!!

I love how we live in an ass backwards society where we can reward someone for bad behavior. Only in America can you be convicted of a felony and be given a key to a city. This sends a horrible message to our youth, who are now a days, even more impressionable. As long as you have money are a famous athlete or on TV you can restore your image. The people on this forum who have a bleeding heart for this p.o.s, well we all know where your values are. In the crapper
