Greyhound Park called “ideal place for dogs”

Tucson Greyhound Park CEO Tom Taylor was put in an awkward spot late last year by a local TV reporter — but as GREY2K sees it, that’s exactly where he belongs.

GREY2K, a national organization seeking to end greyhound racing, combined pieces of the TV news report with its own material and subsequent photos taken during a county inspection, and is circulating the ensuing video widely.

It’s an attempt to show how those who defend the sport will go to great lengths — possibly in the opposite direction of the truth — to spin things their way.

When a TV reporter showed Taylor undercover video footage taken by GREY2K investigators of the less than luxurious living conditions of the park’s greyhounds, he responded that it’s a subjective thing:

“I could show you a picture of the Mona Lisa, and you could say ‘Oh, that’s horrible,’” he said.

In the interview last December with KOLD television, Taylor called Tucson Greyhound Park an “ideal place for dogs.”

Then he refused to allow reporters to see the kennels for themselves, saying that that the TV station would “show it to thousands of people, and we don’t know how they’re going to take it.”

GREY2K says more recent photographs taken at the Tucson track over the past year by Pima County investigators confirm their findings: greyhounds living in warehouse style kennels, in wire cages barely large enough for them to stand up or turn around, many of them muzzled.

Despicable excuse for a human being. They live in “Ideal conditions”, but he wouldn’t keep is pet dog confined that way. Hopefully, there’s a special level in Hell for this type of individual. Disgusting.

What a a pathetic attempt to improve the image of this end of the line track.

Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane. Greyhounds endure lives of nearly constant confinement, kept in cages barely large enough for them to stand up or turn around. While racing, many dogs suffer and die from injuries including broken legs, paralysis, and cardiac arrest. And many greyhounds are euthanized every year, as the number retired from racing exceeds the number of adoptive homes.

At racetracks across the country, greyhounds endure lives of confinement. According to industry statements, greyhounds are generally confined in their cages for approximately 20 hours per day. They live inside warehouse-style kennels in stacked cages that are barely large enough to stand up or turn around. Generally, shredded paper or carpet remnants are used as bedding.

An undercover video recently released by GREY2K USA shows the conditions in which these gentle dogs are forced to live: http://www.grey2kusa.org/azVideo.html

Dogs play an important role in our lives and deserve to be protected from industries and individuals that do them harm.

Hey people that donate to Grey2K, did you know that $140,000 of your donations went directly into the bank accounts of Carey Thiel and Christine Dorchak?

Did you know that Grey2K has only had an affect on greyhound racing in one state, that being they state they reside in Massachusetts? Yet Grey2k continually takes credit for being responsible for tracks closing around the country which actually closed for one reason and one reason only, FINANCIAL PROBLEMS.

I would think twice before you donate to Grey2K. Go look at their financial statements on their website. Your money is probably not going where you think it’s going.

I’d also like to see a breakdown of their expense accounts.

“Hey Carey lets take the kids down to Orlando for a week to Disneyland, we’ll make believe were doing some work at Sanford Orlando Greyhound Track and spend donations on a vacation. Great idea Christine. Nobody will ever know”

It’s a shame that “Larry” revels in his ignorance, rather than actually look into the work done by GREY2K USA. Take a look at the information on the website for yourself and you’ll see why so many of us are working to end the cruelty of greyhound racing.
