Found in a trash bag, Maltese named Karma
A bloody and dirty blob of fur found in a sealed plastic trash bag in downtown Louisville this week has been cleaned up enough to reveal he is a Maltese, treated for fleas, anemia and pelvic fractures, and given the name Karma.
Authorities suspect, based on his injuries, that the 3-1/2-pound dog was thrown from a car window.
A $2,500 reward is being offered by the Humane Society of the United States for information leading to an arrest.
Wave3 News reports that the dog was dumped Tuesday at the intersection of Chestnut and Louisville streets.
A woman stopped at a traffic light heard a noise, got out of her car, ripped the bag open and found the dog inside.
Rebecca Eaves of the Shamrock Pet Foundation said the dog was “”absolutely covered in flea nests, severely anemic, parasites inside and outside, the whole nine yards.”
Dr. Scott Rizzo of Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners said Karma has pelvic fractures, likely the result of being thrown or dropped onto the concrete.
Believed to be 2-3-years old, the dog was originally thought to be a brown terrier mix, but once cleaned up he was revealed to be white.
“He’s a little Maltese and he’s white,” Dr. Rizzo said. “You never would have thought that when he came in.” He said Karma’s fractures may be able to heal without surgery.
Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Animal Services at (502) 363-6609.
The Shamrock Foundation’s Arrow Fund (P.O. Box 24033 Louisville, KY, 40224) is collecting donations for Karma’s medical care.

I see too many news stories like this and I get tired of wondering “how” and “why”!

I don’t understand HOW people can physically do this sort of thing to their own dog, or any animal especially when it belongs to them?! Tougher sentences are certainly needed. These animals are so defenseless and they need us to stand up for them!

smokes tomuch and everyone else – please see “Walking for RED” on Facebook and sign up for the campaign. He found a dog in the trash and is trying to get animal abuse to be a federal felony crime. And those of you who hate the idea of people getting away with this should jump on his bandwagon. I did!!

I have a year old Malese and a 6 year old Maltese mix. We found the mix in a box on the side of the road in cokd winter rain. She is my heart and the sweetest baby anyone could ever wish for. I’m joining the cry for animal abuse to be a felony. We should treat the people who do these things the same way they treat these innocent helpless little babies.

People like this need to be treated the same as people who do these types of things to people and even more so because animals are innocent idk how anyone can bring themselves to do this just imagine what they would do to a person. This world is so evil it’s incomprehensible to me.

I’ve got some “Karma” for you… How about a national law that mandates an automatic, non-negotiable 5 year prison sentence for anyone bagging up a living animal and tossing it away like so much garbage? Of course it’ll never happen, but I can’t think of a better way to send the message that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. Now that’s “Karma” baby!
