( John, you said this: Maybe I need to know that the old man gets home OK after the diner dancing, or that the upwardly mobile lads grow from the experience, as opposed to it being a once-in-a-lifetime act of kindness )...

my response: but John, isn't that the whole idea behind the imagination?.. It's up to us to 'imagine' that the old man gets home ok, that the upwardly mobile lads understand that we are all on the same boat , so do your part to make sure this boat doesn’t sink…. And besides this story helps us to believe that there are still some good people left in this world..this is most certainly a feel good story and I think we all need those feel good stories every now and then....even if they seem so far away, so distant.. the imagination is still free, granted reality is such a cold slap in the face sometimes and it wears us out.. but feel good ( if only a moment through a commercial ) is so welcomed… as least for me...

Debbie, I agree on the song, and, of course, on the dog, and also, wholeheartedly, on all those themes/lessons you mention. Somehow though, they ring a little hollow for me in this ad. Maybe I'm just jealous of the good looking, youthful men in nice clothes, and their fine automobile. Maybe I need to know that the old man gets home OK after the diner dancing, or that the upwardly mobile lads grow from the experience, as opposed to it being a once-in-a-lifetime act of kindness. Maybe a sequel is in order. Maybe, I'm thinking about it too much.

I disagree with you on this one John, I really really like this commercial, as I think it has a lovely story.
My story of it is that it’s ok to have a simplistic night out ( don’t always have to be night clubblin’ to have a good time)… To enjoy our journey, no matter the twists and turns.. trust your instincts to make a difference( picking up the mature man and his dog ( a pit bull )Is most certainly, in my humble, ‘trusting’ your instincts in this case to help someone out and that you never know what ‘lesson’s you might learn from trusting… to just kick back, be yourself and let things unfold as they may..Although the commentator at the end says’ live life large’ the boys night out was most certainly Not living life large in the sense where we know it in the past ( fine dining, drinks ( maybe to the point where we don’t remember our ‘night out’ at all!..… fancy clothes ) but meeting people along the way and lessons learned that changes our landscape….. oh, and I love that song too..
