Tribe donates to care of dog found shot
A dog found shot on an Indian reservation is slowly recovering, and the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians has donated $2,500 to help pay his medical bills.
Chance, a retriever mix about 18 months old, is being cared for at the San Diego County Department of Animal Services Shelter after being found on the side of a road on the reservation, according to Fox 5 in San Diego
“We are very proud of the Viejas tribal family member who first discovered Chance on the side of the road and called authorities for help, the Viejas tribal firefighter who responded first and provided aid to Chance, as well as the veterinary professionals who saved this dog’s life,” tribal chairman Anthony Pico said
“This shooting goes against everything Viejas stands for and we will do everything we can to make sure Chance eventually gets to a home where he can know the safety, comfort and love that he deserves,” Pico said.
A single bullet passed through Chance’s lungs and his treatment included four days in an oxygen chamber.
The dog was found Feb. 20 by a woman who spotted him from her car. Animal Services is investigating the shooting.
The tribal contribution will go into the Animal Services Department’s Spirit Fund, which pays for veterinary care beyond what the shelter can afford. The dog’s owner was located and surrendered him to the county.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case, and San Diego Animal Advocates is offering an additional reward up to $2,000 for information leading to a conviction. Anyone with more information is urged to call county Animal Services at 619-236-2341, or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

Dead dogs found in home of ex-Kiss guitarist
Four dead dogs in “sealed containers” were found in the Tennessee home of former Kiss guitarist Vinnie Vincent over the weekend during an investigation that led to his arrest on charges of assaulting his wife.
While authorities continue to investigate that piece of the mystery, Vincent, a member of Kiss from 1982 to 1984, was released after posting $10,000 bond after his arrest by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department, according to The Daily News Journal.
The newspaper quotes authorities as saying Vincent’s wife, Diane, arrived to the Sheriff’s Office “covered in blood,” claiming that Vincent, 58, had ”smacked her in the face,” dragged her through a pile of glass on the floor and threw her on the ground four times.
After that, deputies went to the couple’s home, where they reportedly found “four sealed containers containing deceased dogs.” His wife said that the dogs had been killed by one of their “aggressive dogs.”
As to why the dogs bodies were being kept, authorities had no comment, but one has wonder if Vincent, who wore the Egyptian symbol for life painted on his face during performances, was into pet mummification and/or cloning.
Vincent, whose real name is Vincent John Cusano, was located later and charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection with the alleged beating of his wife.
Vincent replaced original band member Ace Frehley and played on two albums — “Creatures of the Night” and “Lick It Up.”
Vincent left KISS in 1984 after disputes with the band. He lives in Smyrna, Tenn

Gory details: Will this poop song go viral?
Gory Bateson and Dougie Mac chose what they call “the famous dog poop sculpture in Beverly Hills” to record this “public service announcement” — a musical reminder to pick up your dog’s poop.
The sculpture isn’t really of dog poop (though there is some resemblance), it’s just modern art.
Similarly, “Gory Bateson” isn’t really Gory Bateson – he’s a modern-day artistic creation, as well.
Gateson is the internet persona of Nick Trujillo, a California State University, Sacramento, communications professor who, a la Spinal Tap, established an alter ego as the burned out former lead singer of the mythic band The Ethnogs.
It’s all aimed at exploring how viral media works — how popular sensations emerge within the new media landscape. Trujillo has posted more than 70 videos on YouTube under the guise of Gory in hopes of seeing the character go viral.
Gory said he was inspired after he happened by the silver sculpture ( “Erratic,” by artist Roxy Paine, on Santa Monica Boulevard, across from Beverly Hills City Hall). “It looked like dog poop to me. I had dogs for 25 years so I tend to see the world in dog terms.”
Gory points out that he was not paid by Beverly Hills to make the announcement, but undertook it on his own, with his fellow Ethnog, ”Dougie Mac” (who’s really Dr. Bob Krizek, a professor of communication at St. Louis University.)
The song may be a fake public service announcement, performed by a made-up characters, in front of a sculpture that’s open to interpretation, but its message, Gory says, is real:
Pick up that poop.

High-flying dog chosen for new Weezer album

Weezer lead vocalist Rivers Cuomo was perusing the pages of National Geographic when he came across a reader-submitted dog photo that he thought would make a good cover for the group’s next album.
And that’s how Sidney, the high jumper above, came to grace the cover of “Raditude.” The album comes out Oct. 27.
The shot of Sidney was entered in a reader-submitted photo contest sponsored by the magazine. When Cuomo spotted it, according to Spinner, he decided to track down the photographer.
The band then lucked out big time. When they got in touch with the winning photographer, Jason Neely of Middletown, Conn., to seek his permission to use the shot, it turned out he was a big Weezer fan. Here’s Jason’s Flickr page.
There’s a cat in the photo, too, though it’s difficult to spot.
