Dogs seized after rapper gives video tour

After rapper Young Calicoe showed off what he said were fighting dogs and roosters being kept at a Detroit home, a search warrant was executed and the animals were seized.

Police removed animals from the west-side home after the search Wednesday, a Detroit Police spokeswoman told The Detroit News.

In the video, the rapper wanders the grounds of the home, on the 12200 block of West Outer Drive, pointing to pit bulls in kennels and one chained next to a doghouse, and several roosters, of which he says, “We fight them, too. That’s a  grand champ right there.”

The animals from the home will be taken to the Michigan Humane Society,  Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said. Police are also investigating whether the allegations are part of a larger  dogfighting or cockfighting ring and are questioning several people, Stephens  said.

Michigan Humane Society spokesman Kevin Hatman said all the animals will be treated by veterinarians. “We’re just happy right now that the animals are going to be receiving  high-quality care,” he said.

In the video,  Young Calicoe calls the dogs “champions in the making,” and says  “I hope we don’t get indicted for that — that Michael  Vick-type shit.”

Under siege: Steven Seagal-led raid kills dog

Say you’re sitting home minding your own business when Steven Seagal comes crashing through your front gate.

In a tank.

That’s what happened to an Arizona man who plans to file a lawsuit against the actor and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for killing his dog during a police raid, TMZ reports.

The action film star was participating in the raid earlier this year as part of his new reality show, “Steven Seagal Lawman,” having secured permission from Arizona’s infamous sheriff Joe Arpaio — no slouch himself when it comes to macho-fueled overkill.

Jesus Sanchez Llovera has served notice of his intention to sue to Seagal and Arpaio.

He says Seagal and the sheriff’s department raided his home suspecting to find an illegal cockfighting farm.

Llovera says he raises roosters only for show.

Llovera says Seagal arrived at his home on March 9 with a tank, and rammed through the gate on his property. The tank was followed by officers dressed in riot gear.

He says his 11-month old puppy was shot and killed during the raid, that his home sustained “substantial damage,” and that — between the tank and the storm troopers — more than 100 of his roosters were killed.

Llovera’s lawyer says his client wants $100,000 for the damage and an apology form Seagal about the death of his family’s puppy.

1,000-plus animals seized from Houston home

Responding to a complaint about animals in need of medical care, Houston SPCA investigators were shocked to discover more than 1,000 animals at a home in the city — mostly crammed in cages.

SPCA officials say the seizure of animals from the home in northwest Houston was one of the largest in U.S. history.

“They were in deplorable conditions throughout the entire property,” said Charles Jantzen, chief investigator for the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. “Very few of the animals had the basic staples of life — food, water and shelter.”

The majority of animals confiscated were birds, including a score of chickens, roosters, ducks and parrots. SPCA workers also seized gerbils, snakes, iguanas, a malnourished goat, and a pair of small dogs, also in cages.

The animal cages were scattered throughout the property, which is located on an isolated stretch of road in a mainly light-industrial area, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Authorities said the homeowners, who were cooperative during the investigation, told them they sell the animals at flea markets throughout the area.

“They (the animals) were not hidden — they were not secretive,” Jantzen said.

The animals were taken to the SPCA’s Houston headquarters for a medical examination.
